I have to admit that I have a particular affinity for darker roasted coffee. A French Roast is probably as dark as you can go, and Real Good Coffee Co. has done the french roast some justice.
I knew as soon as I hit brew on my Keurig that I was in for an exceptional cup of coffee. The bold and rich aroma immediately filled my kitchen, making me wish the cup was already finished brewing. I have always enjoyed the smell of coffee, but very rarely does the aroma actually make me stop and consider what I am smelling. Though it was later at night when I made my cup, I can imagine how easy it be to get out of bed in the morning if this smell was coming from your kitchen.
The body of this cup of coffee was nice and bold. There was very little acidity, with most of the intensity coming from the bitter side of the spectrum. This is a full bodied, bold brew. It is smooth, not the smoothest I have every tasted, but still incredibly smooth and well balanced.
My favorite part of this coffee is the lack of an aftertaste. Coffee roasted this dark tends to carry with it a very long and bitter aftertaste, but this roast has a very pleasant, and shorter, aftertaste. During my cupping I actually had to stop myself from finishing the cup. This coffee is not lacking for flavor in any way.
I would obviously only recommend this k-cup to fans of darker coffee. Those of you who prefer a lighter roast will not enjoy this coffee at all. It is powerful, strong, and pairs well with a heart dessert after a family meal. I was anything but disappointed with this cup. Real Good Coffee Co follows through with all their promises of quality in this roast.
